Founders

Saulėtekio slėnis (Sunrise Valley) was formally incorporated as a public company in May 2003. Founding stakeholders in Sunrise Valley included Vilnius University, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University and leading hi-tech companies – such as Alna (IT), Bité (telecommunications), Ekspla (lasers). 


Stakeholders


Vilnius University, one of the oldest and most famous establishments of higher education in Eastern and Central Europe, was founded in 1579. The University of Vilnius has 12 faculties, 3 institutes, the oldest Library in Lithuania, the UniversityHospital, an Astronomical Observatory, a Botanical Garden, a ComputerCenter. VilniusUniversity offers three level studies in physical, biomedical, social, technological sciences and humanities, in more than 200 programs.

 

In 1990 the Vilnius Civil Engineering Institute became Vilnius Technical University, which on August 22, 1996 was awarded the name of Gediminas, Great Duke of Lithuania. At present the University has 8 faculties, Aviation Institute named after A.Gustaitis, International Studies Centre, Centre for Continuous Education, 4 research institutes and some laboratories.

 

Alna Group, a leading company amongst regional IT providers (Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia and Poland), specialises in main three spheres: IT consulting and services (Alna Intelligence), Customized software solutions (Alna Software) and Enterprise application solutions and consulting (Alna Business Solutions).

 

Vilnius City Municipality. Development of knowledge economy has been named as the strategic goal in the development of the city of Vilnius for the period from 2002 to 2011 by the city’s government. The government of the city of Vilnius is participating in a number of international projects with the aim of sharing experience with other European cities in promoting the development of knowledge economy. Vilnius city municipality became a shareholder of "Saulėtekio slėnis" in February 2004.

 Laser and Light Science and Technology Association   unites internationally recognized Lithuanian R&D institutions and business companies. Association was established in 2004 .

The association Knowledge Economy Forum, established in 2001, includes managers of Lithuanian companies working successfully in the areas of information technology, laser technology and biotechnology, scientist and politicians.
